Why you should be excited about the 2018 kitchens revealed on The Block!
It is official. Colour is back and we are excited. Actually over-excited! Over the last year we have seen and worked with a lot of clients that have been introducing colour into their kitchens, but last night on the block (yes, we are jumping on the block bandwagon!) every kitchen introduced elements of colour and the results really were sensational.
The Block took away the scary world of colour- the neutral tones of one of the kitchens showcases the timeless appeal of minimal colour paired with simple detail lines to create a classic look with a modern twist. The kitchens with dual colour concepts were not overdone due to the streamlining of appliance walls and the added natural element (timber flooring specifically) that created warmth and softened the palettes.

Colour when paired so simply does create a timeless, elegant look and it can be re-created in any kitchen design with an individual aesthetic in mind. The ultimate finish to these kitchens were the benchtops, picking the right colour to amplify or create a cohesive look is the key in any successful design.
Engineered stone and marble were featured in the kitchens and each one did not take away from the look of the joinery, in fact the designs were enhanced by the use of the same materials for the benchtops and the splashbacks. Take note of the thick benchtops in the main kitchens and thinner benchtops either on the back benches or in the walk in pantries as a design option.

If colour really isn’t your “thing” and white joinery really is your preferred look, you can introduce colour into your kitchen benchtop. There are a wide range of engineered stone, marble and granite colours that will complement a white kitchen-adding in warmth, a hint of pattern and interest without the dramatic contract. However if you do want that dramatic contrast- there are plenty of colours that will work for you too!
Also take note of the design layouts as well- functionality and practicality was another highlight of the designs- integrated appliances were customised into the design rather than just being a commodity of the kitchen and the use of a butlers’ pantry as a space –not just a room (we won’t talk about no bins and dishwasher in the kitchens-we all know that’s the first thing we think of in our real life kitchens!).

Creating these looks isn’t just about following what happens on the Block, it is always about you-your space, your design, your aesthetic, but you can take your inspiration from these to create a look that is as stunning to your taste and budget (because let’s face it, we all have one!).
We look forward to meeting you and discussing your plan to bring some colour to your space!
